1. Guni Search and Identification
For the protection and promotion of traditional system search and identify Guni on regular basis with the help of networking partner, NGO, village CBO, village youth group, women groups, local governing bodies, teachers, school students etc. The selection of Guni is based on following measures:
Selection Criteria
The most arduous task is to identify Traditional health Practitioner (Guni) , sufficient care is taken in this process and there are certain criteria’s that are taken into consideration during the selection process.
- The concerned person should have inherited the knowledge from his forefathers , their teachers or any one who posses this knowledge
- He should have a comprehensive knowledge about the various plants their parts and specific usage.
- He should have complete information about the quantity & dosage of various herbal formulations used by him.
- Should have information about the availability of the medicinal plants used and their seasonality.
2. Guni Training
Organization of training programs in three phases for increasing capacity and capability of the identified Guni’s. Through these training program the capacity and capability of guni increases and they also exchange knowledge with each other which in turn increase their capacity of treating diseases.
The local people like school students, village youth and women also participate in these training programs through which they get knowledge about traditional health system so that they can contribute towards protection of traditional health knowledge.
3. Seminar/Workshop
For publicity of the knowledge and work of Guni RGM organizes workshop and seminar in different states of India in which networking partners, government Agency, school students, youth many localities participate. They gain a lot of knowledge from these work shop and seminars. People ask many question to guni also like:
- How long they have been working
- Which disease they treat.
- From whom they got this knowledge
- Which medicinal plants they use to treat diseases.
- Till now how many patients they have treated.
- Guni give answers to all these queries very patiently.
4. Herbal gardens
With help of guni RGM has grown many herbal gardens in schools and at guni’s house of the medicinal plants which are being used regularly by us. These herbal gardens can be used to save the extinction of medicinal plants and treat some of the normal diseases to provide good health.
5. Seed banks
To save the extinction of medicinal plants RGM has established seed banks with the help of Guni and networking partners (NGO) in the various states of India like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal, Utrranchal, Bihar and Jharkhand. These seed banks contain about 80 different types of seeds of medicinal plants.
6. Guni Formulation
The formulations of Guni are being documented for further use. It contains all the information about medicinal plant like botanical name, local name, parts used, quantity to be used, method of preparation and abstinence.
7. To register guni knowledge with local village governing bodies
To certify Guni knowledge scientifically (ISM Ayurveda) resister Guni knowledge with local village governing bodies (Gram Sabha and Gram Panchayat) so that they get importance in the society and also to make this knowledge available for the coming generation.
8. Health camps
According to local requirements health camps are organized to control the diseases spreading in area. In these health camps patients are being treated by guni through traditional health system to cure seasonal as well as normal diseases. Till now RGM has organized health camps in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal, Urranchal, Bihar and Jharkhand. Disease which have been treated successfully by the formulation of guni in these health camps are Asthma, cough, eczema, menstrual problems, leucorrhoea, piles, joint pains, fever, malaria, chickengunia, diarrhea, eye and ear pain.
9. Guni Aushadhalaya (clinic)
To give identity to guni and so that their knowledge reaches to community RGM has established Guni (clinic) Aushadhalaya with the help of Guni. With these Clinics guni will get an identity as well as publicity. At Aushadhalaya guni treat various diseases like Asthma, cough, eczema, menstrual problems, leucorrhoea, piles, kidney stone joint pains, fever, malaria, pyorrhea, stomach problems, diarrhea, eye and ear pain by their formulations. These clinics help in financial and social improvement of guni. Till now around 40 clinics have been established and are running successfully in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal, Urranchal, Bihar and Jharkhand.
10.Women Health and Nutrition Program
In the tribal areas of south Rajasthan like Udaipur,Rajasmand, Dungarpur where women have suffer because of the rituals prevailing there like eating food after the whole family has taken which results in malnutrition. If we look at the data of women and children in every 5 minutes a women dies during delivery and from every 1000 children 1 child does not crosses 2 years of life. These women have to face many other diseases also like -leucorrhoea, miscarriage, etc.
A week women would give birth to week child and after delivery their position gets worse. Because of week financial position they not able to get the nutritive food which they should because of which many new diseases germ out and child also gets less nutrition. Keeping all this in view RGM organized Women health and nutrition program and training under which with the help of local anganwadi centers nutritive food was distributed by guni to village women and also they were trained how they can prepare nutritive food from the local medicinal plants and grains
11. Documentation
To reestablish guni in society the first challenge for us is to document the knowledge of guni. At present RGM has documented knowledge of guni different states.
12.RGM Guni Pharmacy
For the stability of RGM and Guni, for good financial position, to make available cheap and effective medicines, RGM manufactured Traditional herbal medicines. These medicines were manufactured by gunis from various blocks together with the ayurved specialists’ member of RGM. The main medicines that were manufactured are Battisa, Mogar pak, Jwarnashak Churna, Arjun Churna, Madhumeh nashak Churna, Dant Manjan, Eczema malham,ConstipationChurna, Leukorehhoea churna, Uday churna, Eye drop, Balrahshak,Vatnashak Tail, Shwashar syrup, shwashar bhasm.
13. Networking
With help of networking partners at district and block level many guni have been joined with RGM. By establishing coordination with forest department, agriculture department and health department we have tried to benefit guni under various schemes of government.
For the conservation of medicinal plants guni were joined with many schools so that the coming generation can get knowledge about traditional health system.
With the help of electronic media, print media, pamphlet and posters publicity of traditional health system was done. |
